What is this?
The outside sales position is responsible for developing new business in addition to servicing existing customers. Using a consultative sales approach, listening to the expectations of the customer, the sales representative will make product and application recommendations, identify areas of opportunity and offer solutions. This position will maintain and develop relationships with current and potential new customers. Continually monitor market trends and communicate current or future changes to management. Individuals must be self-driven results oriented with a positive outlook and have a clear focus on high quality and business profit.
What does my day look like?
The following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position but is not meant to be all inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary.
• Prospecting Customers - Identify potential markets, clients, and projects through networking and prospecting.
• Product Knowledge - Educate clients and potential clients on benefits and features of our products and services. In this regard, sales personnel are expected to continually grow in their capabilities to do their jobs better.
• Customer Service - Consistently stay in contact with clients through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, email, written letters, etc. May require overnight travel.
• Technical assistance - Provide analytical perspective to customers when necessary or act as a liaison when the customer communicates with the Anchor Paint Technical Department.
• Market research - Work closely with management concerning market changes.

• The outside sales representative should have prior experience in sales or customer service. Experience in a retail or other type of paint/coatings company is highly desirable.

• This position requires a High School diploma and a College education is preferred.
• Analytical Skill – Ability to identify and analyze problems, seek more efficient methods and identify alternative solutions or courses of action.
• Proactive – Ability to anticipate needs and requirements, initiate innovation and improvements in line with changing requirements and to demonstrate a sense of urgency in responding to needs.
• Initiative – Ability to work independently with limited supervision and to take the initiative in completing assignments. Must be a forward planner who critically assesses own performance. Must be determined.
• Communication Skills – Proven oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Maturity – Demonstrated maturity and the ability to be direct and to the point in posing questions, suggesting changes and building consensus for new ideas.
• Product Knowledge – Ability to gain demonstrated proficiency and thorough knowledge of products and proper application technique.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
• Ability to handle and resolve challenging problems.

• The position is physically demanding and requires physical exertion, requiring lifting containers or boxes up to 75 pounds.
