Title: Medical Billing Specialist

Salary: $17-25 an hour

Position: Temp to Hire

Local Tulsa Medical office is seeking a full-time billing specialist to join their team of associates. The client would prefer a certified coder or someone with at least aspirations of becoming certified and a minimum of 2-3 years of medical billing experience. Under direct supervision of the Business Office Manager, the Billing Specialist is responsible for accurate billing of all IONM services, procedures, diagnoses and conditions working from the appropriate documentation in USMON and Encoder Pro. They will be responsible for reviewing that process claims correspond to appropriate classification systems including ICD 10 – CM, CPT, as well as other specialty systems as required by diagnostic category. All work is carried out in accordance with the rules of third-party insurance and customer coding guidelines. Additionally, the billing Specialist will be responsible for assigned projects or collections and phone interactions with patients. They will also manage assigned WAYSTAR Electronic Claims, as well as, run hard copy paper claim as necessary.

As a Billing Specialist, a typical day for you might include the following:
• Requests and Reviews patient medical records to assure correct coding and accurate billing. Prepares accounts medical claims (1500 forms) for submission to the appropriate source. Process/ Enter accurate data into USMON and WAYSTAR in a timely manner.
• Assembles appropriate information and attachments to medical claims and mails to payer(s) for patient’s accounts with complications or that require paper billing.
• Submit claims, edits errors, and trouble shoots paper and/or electronically per carrier requirements in a timely manner. Clears errors per carrier receipt and re-submit. Trouble shoot correct and resubmit any claims returned by mail/electronically.
• Work Groups in WAYSTAR (Coding, Claim Edit, etc.) daily.
• Serve as a role model and mentor to staff, developing a positive team atmosphere within the office.
• Meet or exceed customer needs in a caring, effective and efficient manner.
• Maintain levels of quality that meet or exceed customer expectations throughout process improvement and team-oriented approach.
• Maintain professional and confidential relationship when conveying relevant information to other members of the healthcare team.
• Accepts assignments based on patient census, acuity, needs, and the qualifications and competencies of self and of other staff members.
• Promptly and Professionally answers the phone on weekly assigned day.
• Work closely with other staff to ensure that revenue goals and objectives are met.
• Report accurately and timely to those who require information.
• Initiate problem solving and conflict resolutions skills to foster effective work relationships with peers.

This job might be for you if:
• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• At least two (2) years billing experience in private or healthcare organization preferred; Experience with physician or ambulatory setting coding preferred.
• Good understanding of revenue cycle.
• Problem solving / analytical skills.
• Organized and detail oriented.
• Computer skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, WAYSTAR, Encoder Pro.
• Able to use health related Practice Management System.
• Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain competency as required for job title.
• Knowledge of CPT coding and ICD-10 coding with an emphasis in Neurology.
• Knowledge of government and other third-party payor requirements and policies.

While performing the duties of this job:
You may be constantly required to sit and use hands to operate telephone, type and operate computer and mouse. You also may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
